The Parable of Gems

I went out camping with my buddy in the summer of 2020, in the state parks of Ithaca, NY. It was a hot, early afternoon day in August. And as my buddy got into the hammock, I came to the realization (as we were under the canopy of trees) that I'd very much like to be in the sun light. I then made my way to the stream only about 15 feet from where I was standing. The ground was covered with rock, the only place where no trees could grow. Now as I stepped into the light, I could feel the sun generously warming my skin, and the soothing water of the stream cooling my feet. I soon found myself sitting comfortable in the stream, marveling at the sight of beautiful rays of light formed by the sunshine filtering through the minerals of the water, at the surface of the stream. Kind of like when you see the clouds opening up to streams of light shining down as though from heaven. In that moment, without even realizing, I perceived the rays of light in the water as God's heavenly light. The light led my vision to some small stones on the bottom of the stream; in the dirt, or what I considered the murky water. It was filthy down there, and I couldn't appreciate these stones where they were. So, I scooped them up into the palm of my hand, taking along with the stones some dirt and sand from the murky water. All to be elevated into the rays of light within the water, that I may clearly see and appreciate them. As I elevate my hand now through about a foot of water, the most amazing thing happens. I immediately notice the dirt and sand gradually slipping from my palm, off the sides and through my fingers, as I elevate my hand with the stones through the water. Which, continued until my hand reached the light, completely free of the dirt of the murky water; I now beheld the most beautiful gems in God's heavenly light, where I could see them perfectly in all their splendor. And that's when it hit me, as clear as day, that this is us. That, until we elevate ourselves from the depths (where the demons survive), into God's heavenly light (where we are clean), we can not be appreciated for the beautiful gems we truly are!

And in that moment, all I could say was "Oh Wow, Praise God!!".

To Find Peace, Fill Your Heart with Love

To have peace, is a blessing from God. But how do we obtain God’s blessing? By being filled with love in our heart; the only currency we have before God is our obedience to Him, which is an act of love. As Jesus explains: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

The Gift We are to Receive

God planned for an avenue for each of us to be redeemed from the hand of the enemy; through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, we may all be saved. By simply believing in Him, you will be saved and delivered from death. Believe without a doubt that there is a peace to be found when you accept the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal Lord & Savior. If you have not done so already, simply take the time to surrender your life to God, and find the overwhelming peace that is available to you at any moment of your life. Receiving Him means that you are no longer living for the evil (self serving) desires that you did before, but are now living to serve the will of God. This does not mean you will always be righteous or even holy, but that in all your ways, as you look to the Lord with your heart, He will guide your path.

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge Him,

and He shall direct your path."

Prayer of Salvation

Each day, ask the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness of your sins, and your sins will be forgiven. But if you have yet to receive the Lord, repeat this prayer:

"Jesus, I surrender myself to you, I receive you as my Lord and Savior. I believe that you are the Son of God, and that you died on the cross for me, that I may live, and that you rose again. Please deliver me from sin and guide my life. In the name of Jesus, Amen."

It is through this, proclaiming that Jesus is Lord, that you will receive the Holy Spirit, who will guide you to all truth, peace, and security in God. May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.
